"The Archers broke me." Listeners react to tragedy in Ambridge 💔

On 23 February the Grundy family were in shock as Nic Grundy died of sepsis at the age of 37. Nic kissed goodbye to her three small children - Jake, Mia and Poppy in ICU and ed away with Joe by her side.

But it wasn't just the Grundy family who were united in grief, Archers listeners were rocked by the tragic events too...

When you’re sat sobbing in the car at after school club pick up and one of the mums asks if you’re ok and you have to explain its because you’re listening to @BBCTheArchers and are devastated!

Driving back from whitstable on m2 had to pull over onto a lorry car park as the tears started to flow..big beefy lorry driver taps on window asks if I’m ok and offered me his tea ☕️from the snack wagon I explained & instead of lol @ me he said oh bless you .. #thearchers

One of my really good friends was in hospital with sepsis a few weeks ago (she's fine thanks to @CwmTaf ) but it's terrifying to think how fit, healthy people can develop #sepsis so quickly.

Back in February 1996 I had sepsis, found it difficult to complete sentences is my main memory. The doctor, bless her, rushed me off to hospital... despite me arguing (as best I could) that "I don't do hospitals". Thankfully it was not as far developed as it was for Nic (although red tracks up my arm from the infected finger nail) and three weeks later I was fully recovered. I have found this story line totally believable (it just comes out of nowhere) and shocking as to just how dangerous this (I had thought trivial) condition is. [Mary Dorrell on Facebook]

The guilt about Nic from Joe,Emma,Ed,Jolene & Kenton will be profound..all misplaced of course but keenly felt #thearchers
