Liechtenstein head coach Konrad Funfstuck says Wales are “like a Premier League team” but says his side will give their all to make things difficult for their hosts.

As we mentioned a little earlier, Liechtenstein’s international record is more back-end-of-a-bus than it is pretty, which is not that surprising when you consider there are only a handful of fully professional players in their squad.

Nevertheless, Funfstuck – whose side twice lost to San Marino in their most recent Nations League campaign – says Liechtenstein will give their all at the Cardiff City Stadium.

“I believe the roles are clear here,” he said.

“We are the underdogs. Wales is like a Premier League team, individual players who are very good and with a high market value.

“Liechtenstein is a country with only a 30,000 population. We will do everything possible to do our best and hold our head up high. We don't just want to be watching the game. We want to participate in and enjoy the game.”

Harry Wilson has been outstanding this season.

He hasn't always played every week, but every time he gets on the pitch he's affected the game.

Wilson is in a similar mould to Gareth Bale, he can make something out of nothing, so to have him back fit in the team is a huge bonus.

Wales had to cope without two of their most influential players in the previous international window, when both Harry Wilson and Ethan Ampadu were missing through injury.

At 28 - and some 12 years since he won his first cap in Belgium, at the ground where Wales play on Monday night - Wilson has matured into arguably Wales' most influential player.

The Fulham man says he is feeling good having returned to action with his club in the final weeks of the season - and says he is loving life under Craig Bellamy.

You might be surprised to hear a familiar tune before kick-off.

The melody of God Save the King, the national anthem of England (and the United Kingdom of course, but you're less likely to hear it in Wales) also happens to be the tune for Liechtenstein’s national anthem, Oben am Jungen Rhein ('High on the Young Rhine').

The Football Association of Wales has helpfully provided an explanation, noting: "While it shares the tune with God Save the King, the lyrics are entirely distinct and specifically reference Liechtenstein’s national identity and heritage."

Liechtenstein are ranked 205th in the world, just below the Bahamas and a place above Turks and Caicos Islands.

They have picked up a handful of notable results down the years but current form, with one win coming in their past 47 internationals, is not pretty.

The team they beat? Hong Kong, in a friendly last year.

Liechtenstein are without a competitive win in 36 attempts, hence Wales are expected to make light work of their opponents tonight.

Iwan Roberts has just told us how confident he is about the result tonight - yet Craig Bellamy insists he is taking nothing for granted.

"Do I understand people believing we should win? Of course I do," the Wales boss said in his pre-match press conference.

"But I was up late last night. I didn't sleep well. Does that tell you something? I treat every team the same. I've watched the same amount of games on Liechtenstein as I have for every other team.

"My psyche can't work any differently. I honestly believe if you disrespect the game it will catch you out."

I've never been so confident going into a Wales game.

Liechtenstein's record in World Cup qualifying games is atrocious, they haven't won a qualifier since September 2005.

They've lost their last 13 away games and only scored once.

I don't want to show any disrespect to Liechtenstein, but I'm so confident Wales are going to win, and win comfortably.

David Brooks was the toast of the Wales camp after his late goal in North Macedonia in March which preserved Craig Bellamy's unbeaten record as head coach.

There have been more congratulations for the Bournemouth midfielder after he and wife Flora revealed they are to become parents.

For Brooks, who was diagnosed with cancer in 2021, the news is especially joyous given that there were questions about whether this time would ever come.

"Obviously when I was diagnosed, you have those conversations and there were never any guarantees that I would be able to have children in the future," Brooks said.

It's going to be very interesting keeping an eye on the Belgium game tonight.

They go away to North Macedonia in their first game in the campaign; we'll see what result they get and that'll give us a better idea of how important our point was last time out.

Rabbi Matondo will hope for another chance to shine in his home city tonight having scored his first international goal at the Cardiff City Stadium in the March win over Kazakhstan.

The winger is yet to make a consistent mark at international level - but says Craig Bellamy is the man to get the best out of him.

Sometimes these 'lesser' teams can be difficult, most of these international teams now are at a minimum well organised and technically at a decent level.

There's no easy games these days, it's all down to Wales and how they perform and getting the game plan right.

Wales head coach Craig Bellamy has called on his players to be patient in breaking down Liechtenstein.

Bellamy expects a similar test to the one posed by Kazakhstan in March where his side held a nervy 2-1 lead until Rabbi Matondo's first international goal in the 90th minute sealed three points.

This is one of two games in World Cup qualifying Group J this evening, with top seeds Belgium belatedly starting their campaign with a trip to North Macedonia.

Wales are currently second, behind North Macedonia on goal difference, with Kazakhstan in third courtesy of a 2-0 win over Liechtenstein, who are yet to get off the mark having also lost 3-0 at home to the North Macedonians in March.

Robert Earnshaw believes Wales have a chance of beating Belgium to top spot in their World Cup qualifying group – but says victory tonight is essential if they are to make that happen.

Wales go to Belgium on Monday for what is on paper their toughest fixture in Group J.

Wales will travel with some confidence having gone eight games unbeaten under Craig Bellamy - but the first task is to overcome Liechtenstein this evening.

“It’s a must-win because when you look at the group, North Macedonia, they’re on four points as well and of course almost beat Wales in the last game,” Earnshaw told BBC Radio Wales Breakfast.

“Belgium are now going to start their campaign and obviously they’re the favourites to win it.

“But Wales I think will have that outside spot of really pushing this group. I think Wales can actually win it, but Belgium will be the favourites.”

Midfielder Ethan Ampadu is relishing being back in the Wales squad to face Liechtenstein tonight.

Ampadu missed the previous World Cup qualifying games with a knee injury.

Goalkeeper Benjamin Buchel has been named Liechtenstein’s player of the year for the past three seasons, and you’d imagine he’s in for another busy evening against Wales.

Wales welcome back two key players in the form of Harry Wilson and Ethan Ampadu after they missed the opening two World Cup qualifiers in March due to injury.

Swansea City forward Liam Cullen, Sheffield United striker Kieffer Moore and Burnley defender Connor Roberts are also recalled, but Leeds United winger Daniel James misses out through illness.

Good evening, noswaith dda, Guten Abend and welcome to our coverage of Wales' World Cup qualifier against Liechtenstein at the Cardiff City Stadium.

This is game number nine of Craig Bellamy's Wales reign and, let's be honest, it has been an enjoyable ride up until now.

Wales expects this evening. That is partly because of the impact Bellamy has made and partly because Liechtenstein are among the weakest international sides in Europe.
